As of yesterday, GR:AW 2 360 gamers can finally get their hands on not just one, but two new downloads!
The first download is the GR:AW 2 "More Guns Pack" which includes 7 additional weapons for single player Quick Mission mode. Best of all, the More Guns Pack DLC is free!
For 800 Microsoft Points, the Co-op Collection DLC is now available and features a 5-mission co-op campaign set in El Salvador that continues the story from GR:AW 2. Many of you have been wondering what the status is of the co-op DLC for GR:AW 2 that was set to be released over a month ago. Fact is Ubi hasn't provided any notable news about the GR franchise in the last couple months until today: we now have an official update (thanks to Red Storm's new Community Developer Kimi :-) that RSE is still working hard on getting the Co-op Collection and a gun pack out to fans but we won't see them until 2008.
Until then, fans can whet their appetites with three video flythroughs of various levels included in the upcoming DLC.

IGN has published a hands-on preview of the Xbox 360 exclusive America's Army: True Soldiers being developed by Red Storm. There are details about the huge number of gameplay modes, 8-mission campaign, customizable soldiers, and more!
Backed by RSE's experience and success with GR:AW 360's multiplayer over the past few years, this title (which has received little fanfare so far) is looking like it could be a huge hit on Xbox Live this fall.

GR:AW 2 PC Benchmarks on Windows XP vs Vista

With pretty much all new computers in the last year having 64-bit processors and Windows XP being harder and harder to find as retailers sell systems almost exclusively with Vista these days, gamers are facing the biggest transition since the days of migrating from Windows 98SE.
The good folks at SimHQ have responded to this by posting an excellent article where they pit Windows XP Pro 32-bit head-to-head with Vista Ultimate 64-bit using some of the most popular military/sim games as benchmarks. Interestingly, the GR:AW 2 benchmarks are a bit of an anomaly as Vista doesn't fall behind as much as in most other games.

The official GR website has announced that the PlayStation 3 version of GR:AW 2 has been released. Check out some comments from initial reviews of the game here.
An interesting coincidence is that the PS3 update of the classic PS1 game Warhawk was also released this week to rave reviews! Long-time GR fans may recognize that the director behind the Warhawk dev team is none other than Brian Upton who was the Lead Designer of the original Ghost Recon game.

It truly is a sad day for the GR community as we have received news that we are losing the developer who has really became the face and spokesman/liason with GR fans and fansites over the past few years: Christian "Serellan" Allen posted this letter below at the Ubi.com forums informing us that he has accepted a new job at Microsoft's Bungie Studios.Hello all,
Well, it's been a great ride, but everything comes to an end, and for me, that time has come. I have had a blast working on the Ghost Recon franchise for the better part of the past five years, in roles from Assistant Designer on GR:IT Xbox on up to Creative Director on GRAW2 360. It's been great both designing the games and interacting with the community. GR has a great bunch of fans, ones that won't hesitate to give their opinions (often, and loudly!).
Working at RSE and Ubisoft has been one of the most exciting experiences of my life, and I've learned a ton (often from mistakes :-) but for various reasons, I've decided to move on to something different. I’ll be picking up stakes and moving out to the Pacific Northwest, where I've accepted a Design Lead position at Bungie. I’m an Alaskan boy, so the pine trees of Washington are a bit more appealing to me than the oaks in North Carolina (and 70 degree heat index beats 105 in my book :-)
I'm still a GR and R6 fan (as I always have been), so don't be surprised if you see me lurking around on Live (I still gotta get that Ultimate Defender achievement!). Meanwhile, keep an eye out for Jeff "Geridak" McGann and Chris "Braybot" Bray, Designers at Red Storm; they will be scouring the forums now for your feedback instead of me.
Thanks,
Christian "Serellan" Allen We at GR Retreat have the utmost respect for Serellan, not only being a designer behind one of the greatest tactical shooter franchises of all time, but for being approachable and not afraid to interact with fans both online and in person (like when we interviewed him here at E3). Not only did we find him articulate and informative, but a genuinely nice guy who cared about what fans thought and never forgot his roots as a fan and modder.
We want to wish him all the best at his new job at Bungie (where he joins fellow RSE alumni Steve Cotton) and look forward to seeing his name in the credits of more blockbuster games! In the meantime, you can check out Serellan's new weblog for more updates!

BlackFoot Studios has announced the title of its first game that has been generating huge excitement in the squad-based tactical gaming community: Ground Branch. Here's a snippet from the synopsis:Ground Branch is the premiere title from Blackfoot Studios. The term Ground Branch is a little known Military and Intelligence reference phrase for the paramilitary wing of the CIA.
These teams are not constrained by the law of land warfare that applies to military units. They operate under the radar and outside public knowledge, often conducting operations in conjunction with Special Operations Forces. Their members are drawn from the best former SOF operators from around the world including US Army Special Forces, British SAS, Australian SAS, Navy SEALs, Delta Force, and GSG9 just to name a few. Find out more information about the game at BlackFoot Studio's Ground Branch forums!

Richard Dansky Interview at Gamasutra

Gamasutra has published an informative Q&A with Richard Dansky whose official title is "Central Clancy Writer and Manager of Design for Red Storm Entertainment." Find out what his job entails, get some great insight into the field of game writing, and read what Richard's favorite moments are in games he's been involved in.
With regards to the GR series, here's what Richard has to say: "As for the one I'm proudest of, that would probably be Ghost Recon: Island Thunder. It was a second mission pack, so we had a good handle on what the game was capable of, and that in turn let us push the envelope in some interesting ways. It was a great team, and we got a chance to take some chances with the mission scripting that really paid off in terms of the gameplay. The fact that the story really seemed to resonate just tied the whole thing together for me - it was a really satisfying project to do."
Note that you can also check out Ghost Recon Retreat's own interviews with Richard Dansky and the rest of the GR:IT team from way back in 2002!

PhysX Shines on GR:AW 2 PC's Ageia Island

GR:AW 2 PC will include a very special map called "Ageia Island" that will have fully destructible environments and take full advantage of a PhysX add-in physics processing unit (PPU) card. Maximum PC magazine has published an article about how GR:AW 2 PC could be the "killer app" that Ageia has been looking for to really showcase its PhysX technology. Here's a snippet:"The effects are persistent, too. Blow up a hut or take down a tower, and the debris will be there every time you return to that spot in the game. And as odd as it might sound, the weather effects in GRAW2 are almost as impressive as the explosions. The wind blows so many leaves and other debris around the environment that it sometimes obscure your vision. These are the types of particle effects that I’ve been waiting to see move from Ageia's lab demos to real-world games." Check out a in-game footage of PhysX in action on Ageia Island over here at Planet PhysX.

Destined only for the Xbox 360 platform, the game is built upon Red Storm's GR:AW 2 engine as opposed to previous AA titles which used the Unreal engine.
Check out IGN's preview which includes a Q&A with Creative Director Randy Greenback, screenshots, and the official preview trailer for the game. You can also read the official press release and product description here.

Ubisoft has released a rather impressive trailer for GR:AW 2 PC which you can download here. The game seems to be shaping up nicely with new PC-specific features. If you've recently upgraded to a new powerful gaming rig within the last year, this game will look great.
Also check out a Q&A with Bo Andersson, CEO of GR:AW 2 PC developer GRIN. Bo answers questions from the community regarding items such as dedicated server support, in-game voice communication, and being able to save anywhere (which was sorely missing from GR:AW 1).
