OVERVIEW
Africa, 2009. A simmering 60-year conflict boils over as famine ravages Eritrea. The Ghosts move
in to safeguard the U.N. relief effort. As the war rages on, the Ghosts are drawn from the shores
of the Red Sea to the heart of Ethiopia in their deadliest battles yet.
Desert Siege is the name of the first mission pack for Ghost Recon.

Jul 30, 2003
Ubi Soft announces that Island Thunder Xbox has gone gold. Additional
Desert Siege missions will be downloadable via Xbox Live.
Dec 5, 2002
Ubi Soft announces that GR for the
PlayStation 2 has shipped. The PS2 version includes all the missions from Ghost Recon and Desert Siege.
April 12, 2002
A Desert Siege multiplayer patch is released. This patch
is only for players who plan to host a Desert Siege server on their computer.

THE STORY
Full-blown hostilities erupt between longtime opponents Eritrea and Ethiopia.

Game Types Two New Multiplayer Game Types:
Domination (Team only): The focus of Domination gameplay is on controlling territory. Points are scored for each second a particular defined bit of turf is “owned,” with “ownership” gained when a player enters a zone w/o any enemies present. Ownership is retained until another player from a different team enters.
Siege: Basic gameplay consists of one team defending a “base,” which is demarcated by colored smoke, while the other team or teams try to seize it. A base is considered seized if a team has a live soldier present in the “capture zone” at the heart of the enemy’s base for 5 seconds.
New Multiplayer Stat feature
Leaderboard - The in-play leaderboard is activated by a keystroke.
In team play, it shows teams sorted by score. All players are listed.
Sound
Red Storm is making new audio enhancements for the mission pack.
Mod Making Support
An Editing Toolkit will be included with the mission pack. It will include the following:
3dStudio MAX editor plugins - For MAX version 3.x and 4.x.
Used to tag and export geometry for objects/maps as well as a plugin to be able to
read RSB textures in MAX
RSB Editor – Stand-alone application used to give textures attributes used by the game
Lighting Tool - Stand alone application used to light levels
Over 50+ pages of documentation on how to use the tools.

WEAPONS
Desert Siege introduces nine new weapons of which eight are multiplayer-only. All information is pulled from Jane’s infantry weapons (1999-2000 Edition).
New Weapons (Multiplayer-only)
1. Groza: The Groza is a Russian bullpup assault rifle design. It fires a 9x39mm round at a cyclic rate of 700 rounds per minute. The variant we are using utilizes an underbarrel GP25 40mm grenade launcher.
2. Bizon 9mm: The Bizon is a Russian submachine gun. It fires a 9x18mm Makarov round at a cyclic rate of 700 rounds per minute.
3. AN-94: The AN-94 is a Russian assault rifle design, slated to replace the AK74. It fires the Russian 5.45 mm round. It has two different rates of fire, depending on the cyclic setting. The first is a 2-round burst mode that cycles at 1800 rounds per minute. In fully automatic mode, the rifle cycles at 600 rounds per minute.
4. A-91: The A-91 is a Russian compact assault rifle design. It fires a 9x39mm round at a cyclic rate of 800 rounds per minute.
5. M60: The M60 is an American machine gun. It fires a 7.62x51mm round at a cyclic rate of 600 rounds per minute.
6. FN-FAL Para Variant: The FN-FAL is a Belgian assault rifle manufactured by Fabrique Nationale. The Para variant is a slightly shorter and lighter version of the assault rifle designed for use by paratroops. It fires a 7.62x51mm round at a cyclic rate of 600 rounds per minute.
7. H&K PSG-1: The PSG-1 is a sniper rifle manufactured by Heckler and Koch. The rifle fires a 7.62x51mm round in semi-automatic mode only.
8. Barrett M98: The M98 is an American rifle manufactured by Barrett. The rifle fires a 0.338 Lapua Magnum round only in semi-automatic mode.
Specialist Weapon - Single Player (also available in Multiplayer)
9. PKM: The PKM is Russian machine gun. It fires a 7.62x54mm round at a cyclic rate of 700 rounds per minute.
VEHICLES
Desert Siege features two new enemy vehicles:
Pickup truck - Will have 2 soldiers with AK-47’s in the back and a driver with weapon.
Jeep - One soldier is in the back with AK-47 and driver with weapon.
