GENERAL TECHNICAL INFORMATION
This technical support page is dedicated to
providing you information about how and where you can get help if you are
experiencing technical problems with Ghost Recon.
When Ghost Recon was released in November 2001, it featured an engine that used
leading-edge technology at the time such as DirectX 8 and a 3D sound environment.
As we cannot guarantee that we can always personally return questions sent to
us by e-mail, we would recommend that if you have technical questions that are not
answered on this page, please visit the following fan forums.

When asking for help always remember to supply your system specs including:
- CPU (Intel, AMD, is it overclocked)
- RAM amount
- Video card and driver version number
- Sound card
- Operating System (Win 9x, WinXP)
VIDEO PROBLEMS
The most common question we receive pertaining
to graphics in Ghost Recon is how to improve slow frame rates which make movements in the game appear "choppy".
In single player, Ghost Recon is worth playing with the graphic details turned up, even though it may decrease frame
rate. However, playing with a slow frame rate in multiplayer may put you at a disadvantage because of slower response times.
To see what frame rate Ghost Recon is running at, bring up the in-game console using the
Enter key on the Num Pad, then enter "toggleshowframerate", and press Esc to exit. For the average player, we advise to
aim for a frame rate between 30 to 60 frames per second.
How To Improve Graphics Performance in GR
Here are some basic things to do that may improve performance:
GENERAL
Make sure you have DirectX 8.0 or higher (comes with GR)
Make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card
Make sure you have turned off anti-aliasing and ansiotropic filtering
in your display card properties menu
OPTIONS MENU
Turn off all human and vehicle shadows - This is by far provides the largest
increase in performance
Decrease your screen resolution
Chose 16-bit color instead of 32-bit color
IN-GAME
Bring up the in-game console using the Enter key on the Num Pad, then enter "togglemovetrees", and press Esc to
exit. This console command stops the trees from swaying and will improve frame rate by 5-10 fps. You will have to re-enter
this command everytime a new level loads.
For more information about GR's graphics settings, check out this article
here at
GR.net. It details how to tweak GR's graphics settings for best
performance vs. visual quality.
AUDIO PROBLEMS
Ghost Recon provides some of the richest sound
environments and experiences found in gaming so far. If you are having problems with sound in
GR, the best place to start looking for information is the readme.txt file that comes
with Desert Siege.
